Engine System Guide
Complete guide to engine types, components, and maintenance in Car Mechanic Simulator 2021.
Engine Types
I4 Inline-4
The most common engine type. Found in entry-level and economy cars. Simple layout with 4 cylinders in a straight line. Easy to work on and great for beginners learning engine repair.
V6
Mid-range engine with 6 cylinders in a V configuration. Balanced performance and fuel economy. Commonly found in sedans and sports cars.
V8
High-performance engine with 8 cylinders. Produces significant power and torque. Standard in muscle cars and supercars. More complex to repair and maintain.
OHV Pushrod
Overhead Valve engine using pushrods to actuate valves. Classic American muscle car design. Compact and lightweight but limited in RPM compared to OHC designs.
Engine Components
Every engine in CMS 2021 is made up of these 14 core components. Each can be individually removed, inspected, repaired, or replaced.
| # | Component | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Engine Block | Main structure housing the cylinders |
| 02 | Cylinder Head | Covers cylinders, contains valves |
| 03 | Crankshaft | Converts piston motion to rotation |
| 04 | Camshaft | Controls valve timing |
| 05 | Pistons | Move inside cylinders to compress fuel |
| 06 | Connecting Rods | Connect pistons to crankshaft |
| 07 | Oil Pump | Circulates engine oil |
| 08 | Water Pump | Circulates coolant |
| 09 | Intake Manifold | Distributes air-fuel mixture |
| 10 | Exhaust Manifold | Collects exhaust gases |
| 11 | Throttle Body | Controls air intake |
| 12 | Fuel Rail | Distributes fuel to injectors |
| 13 | Ignition Coils | Provide spark to spark plugs |
| 14 | Spark Plugs | Ignite air-fuel mixture |
Recommended Removal Order
When disassembling an engine, follow this order to avoid missing parts or damaging components:
Pro Tips
- ⚙️Always inspect all parts before reassembling — worn parts will reduce engine performance
- ⚙️Use the engine test stand to verify performance after assembly
- ⚙️Parts below 30% condition should be replaced — repairing is not cost-effective
- ⚙️Keep spare engines in your warehouse for quick swaps during jobs
- ⚙️Site under active development — car-specific tuning presets coming soon to maximize your resale value
